Hospitality to Strangers
We often focus on caring for our own, yet the biblical call to hospitality echoes throughout the Scriptures. Leviticus commands us to love the stranger as ourselves. Isaiah pictures God setting a banquet for all the peoples. Jesus points to welcoming strangers as a difference between sheep and goats. “Don’t forget to welcome strangers,” the book of Hebrews warns us. The Gospel is about God’s welcome to those who were far away, and hospitality is a significant biblical theme. What does that mean for preK-12 Christian education?
Our courses on Hospitality to Strangers explore these questions through video, text, discussion, personal study, and guided practice, whether for individuals, groups, or whole school communities.
Drawing from the Kuyers institute’s award-winning work on faith and teaching, we focus on joining careful Christian reflection on Christian hospitality with concrete, everyday consequences for educational practice. Participants will learn about biblical teaching on hospitality, explore how other teachers have responded to it in their schools, and review their own practices in specific and structured ways.
Choose a pathway
Courses on Hospitality to Strangers are available in several forms, each with different content. Pick one or combine them to build sequences for deeper engagement. You could, for instance, combine a professional development day (Intensive Pathway) with more extended engagement in the following months (Extended Pathway) and use the Self-Paced Pathway for absent individuals or new hires to catch up or for individual study.
All except the Graduate Credit option are single, one-time purchases that give you all the resources you need to implement and complete the course in your own time. Once you purchase the resource it is yours to use as you need it within your school community.

Extended Pathway
Choose this option for a longer, higher-impact learning experience for a group or school community. This resource provides 7 modules of learning with a participant commitment of about an hour per module. It can be spread over a period from 7 weeks up to 7 months.

Intensive Pathway
Choose this option if you need resources for leading a professional development day for a school staff. This resource provides group learning for a single intensive day, scalable from 90 minutes to a full day of learning.
Coming June 2025
Self-paced Pathway
Choose this option if you are looking for affordable individual or small group study with modest time commitment, or a way of helping individual teachers such as new hires catch up with professional development. This resource provides structured learning tasks that require 4-8 hours of engagement at your own pace.
Coming May 2025
Graduate Credit Pathway
Choose this option for masters-level study with graduate credit from Calvin university. This resource provides 40 hours of learning for one graduate credit.

Design a Professional Development Sequence
Each Everyday Christian Teaching resource is designed to make sense on its own. But we also know that professional development will have greater impact on your school community if it is coherently sustained over time.
We have therefore also designed these resources so that they can be combined into sequences, and we offer reduced pricing for combined purchases to encourage more extended learning.
