Faith, Community, and Learning
How do we reconcile educational practices that often push toward individual achievement with the biblical call to mutual service and interdependent community? Care for how we live together and seek one another’s good is a central theme in Christian reflection, and Christians have reflected profoundly on how Christian community is something more than our preferred personal networks. The New Testament teaches an ethic of mutual concern in which each brings their gifts to the service of others. How might taking this seriously shape our educational practices in preK-12 Christian education?Â
Our courses on Community, Faith, & Learning explore these questions through video, text, discussion, personal study, and guided practice, whether for individuals, groups, or whole school communities.
Drawing from the Kuyers institute’s award-winning work on faith and teaching, we focus on joining careful Christian reflection on Christian community with concrete, everyday consequences for educational practice. Participants will learn about biblical teaching on community, explore how other teachers have responded to it in their schools around the world, and review their own practices in specific and structured ways
