Sentiment analysis is a natural language processing (NLP) technique that involves determining and extracting sentiments (such as positive, negative, or neutral) from textual data. In the context of this project, sentiment analysis has been applied to tweets related to Amazon India to gauge the overall sentiment expressed by users.
Social media sentiment analysis is crucial for businesses like Amazon as it provides insights into how customers perceive and react to their products or services. Understanding sentiment helps in gauging customer satisfaction, identifying potential issues, and adapting strategies to enhance the overall customer experience.
The primary purpose of this project is to perform sentiment analysis on Amazon India-related tweets. By analyzing the sentiments expressed in tweets, Amazon can gain valuable insights into customer opinions, identify areas for improvement, and proactively address concerns, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction and brand reputation.
Libraries Used:
- pandas:
A powerful data manipulation library that provides data structures like DataFrame, allowing easy cleaning, filtering, and transformation of data. It is particularly useful for handling tabular data, and in this project, it helps in loading and preprocessing the dataset. - matplotlib.pyplot:
Matplotlib is a comprehensive library for creating static, animated, and interactive visualizations, such as the bar chart representing the sentiment distribution. - NLTK (Natural Language Toolkit):
A powerful library for working with human language data. In this project, NLTK is primarily used for text processing tasks.
a) Text Cleaning: NLTK aids in cleaning the text by converting it to lowercase, removing URLs, HTML tags, punctuation, and numbers. This ensures that the text data is preprocessed and ready for analysis.b) Stemming: NLTK provides a SnowballStemmer for word stemming, reducing words to their root form. This step helps in consolidating similar words.
c) Stopword Removal: NLTK’s stopwords list is used to filter out common words that don’t contribute much to the sentiment analysis, enhancing the accuracy of the model.
- WordCloud:
This library helps to generate visually appealing word clouds. Word clouds provide a snapshot of the most frequently occurring words in a dataset. In the context of this project, it helps to visualize the prominent words in the tweets after the cleaning and preprocessing steps, offering an intuitive representation of the dataset’s content. - SentimentIntensityAnalyzer from NLTK:
This component of NLTK is utilized to perform sentiment analysis using the VADER lexicon. VADER is a pre-built sentiment analysis tool that is sensitive to both polarity (positive/negative) and intensity.
The SentimentIntensityAnalyzer assigns polarity scores (positive, negative, neutral) to each tweet, enabling the categorization of sentiments expressed in the text. The sentiment scores are then summed to calculate the overall counts for positive, negative, and neutral sentiments.
Together, these libraries form a robust toolkit for data manipulation, visualization, and advanced text processing, contributing to the comprehensive analysis of sentiments in the Amazon India-related tweets dataset.
Process Steps:
- Text Preprocessing: Converts text to lowercase, removes URLs, HTML tags, punctuation, numbers, and stopwords.
- Tokenization: Splits cleaned text into individual words.
- Feature Extraction: Utilizes the VADER sentiment analyzer to extract positive, negative, and neutral sentiment scores for each tweet.
- Sentiment Classification: Assigns an overall sentiment label based on the aggregated scores.
- Post Processing: Prioritizes negative tweets with the “Priority Tweets” section, focusing on influential accounts.
Priority Tweets Section:
Identifying and prioritizing negative tweets from accounts with a large number of followers is essential for Amazon India. Addressing concerns raised by influential users helps in mitigating potential reputational damage and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction. Timely response to such tweets can also turn negative sentiments into positive ones, showcasing proactive customer engagement.
