Men's Soccer

Calvin captured its 11th consecutive MIAA regular-season title, extending the longest conference championship streak in MIAA men’s soccer history. The Knights also advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the 12th time in the last 14 years. Calvin reached the Round of
16 before bowing to eventual national semifinalist Chicago.

During the year, head coach Ryan Souders recorded his 100th collegiate victory as Calvin’s head coach.

Calvin junior defender Trent Vegter (Hudsonville, Mich.) was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player. Vegter and senior Nate Van Ryn (Grandville, Mich.) were named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-America first team. Junior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich.) wasÌýnamed to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first team.

Women's Swimming

RECORD: MIAA CHAMPIONSÌý
COACH:ÌýDAN GELDERLOOSÌý

For the 14th-straight year, the Calvin women’s swimming and diving team claimed the MIAA crown. The title is the 16th MIAA title in program history for the Knights. The Knights finished with 929 points, 184 points ahead of Hope College. Calvin won 10 events at the championships.

Senior Abby VanHarn (Grand Rapids, Mich.) claimed the honor of MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer for the second-straight year. She won 10 individual MIAA titles at Calvin, including all four 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle races. This year she won the 50-yard freestyle,
100-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard freestyle. She was also a part of four winning relays.

Seven Knights competed for national honors at the NCAA III National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., in mid-March. .

Men's Cross Country

RECORD: MIAA CHAMPIONS
COACH: BRIAN DIEMER

Calvin captured its 31st consecutive MIAA title, placing first at the MIAA jamboree and MIAA championships.

Senior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Runner after placing first at the MIAA Championships. Calvin continued on to claim the Great Lakes Regional title, recording a first-place team score of 61 points.

Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Championships for the 33rd time in school history and placed 12th as a team. Senior Andrew Philipose (Mount Prospect, Ill.) earned NCAA III All-American honors, placing 16th individually.

Men's Swimming

RECORD: MIAA CHAMPIONSÌý

The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team claimed its fourth MIAA title, winning on the final race of the championships. The Knights avenged their second-place finish in 2017 and took back the MIAA crown with 934.5 points, six points ahead of Albion College. Calvin won 14 events at the MIAA Championships.

Junior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va.) was named the MIAA Men’s Most Valuable Swimmer for his performance. Individually he won MIAA titles in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, and 200-yard backstroke. He was also a part of four winning relays. Eight Knights competed for national honors at the NCAA III National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., in mid-March. .

Women'sÌýVolleyball

RECORD: 30-4 OVERALL
COACH: AMBER WARNERS

Calvin captured the MIAA regular-season title with a 16-0 league mark and then won the MIAA Tournament crown. Calvin advanced to the NCAA III Tournament for the 27th time in school history and advanced to the NCAA III Tournament semifinals.

During the year, Calvin head coach Amber Warners recorded her 500th victory as a collegiate head coach.

Junior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill.) was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player and was later named the Division III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, becoming the fourth sister in her family to receive that honor.

Senior Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill.) was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the third consecutive year and was named the 2017 CoSIDA Division III Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year.

Men's Golf

RECORD: 1ST PLACE MIAA
COACH: BRIAN BOLT

Calvin captured its third MIAA regular-season title in the last eight years and gained the top seed for the MIAA’s 54-hole spring tournament, which determines the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Championships in May. Calvin finished eight strokes ahead of Hope in the final MIAA regular-season standings.

Senior John Van Noord (Troy, Mich.) finished second in the final MIAA individual standings and Ben Van Scoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished third.

Men's Indoor Track & Field

COACH: BRET OTTE

The Calvin men’s indoor track and field team claimed its second consecutive MIAA indoor title, taking first place at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with a team score of 173.5 points.

Calvin finished 28.5 points ahead of host Trine to win the league crown. The Knights’ championship included victories in the high jump, weight throw, 400-meter run, mile run, 5,000-meter run, and the 4x400-meter relay.
