Remembering Johan Westra

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, Johan Westra, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home. Westra ’52 taught at Calvin College for 27 years. He was the college’s first full-time political science professor. He also taught history and was a pre-law advisor for more than 20 years. One of the ways Johan and his late wife Wilma’s legacy lives on is through a they established for a student either majoring in political science or who is in the pre-law program. Westra is a WWII veteran and is survived by his son John, daughter Kathryn and grandsons Joshua and Michael Westra. A public memorial service is planned at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 at the Holland Home Raybrook Chapel, located at 2121 Raybrook Ave. SE. .
